The fuel economy of the 2022 Volkswagen Jetta: amazing!

With a liter of gasoline costing almost two dollars, we have no choice but to find ways to save money somewhere. One of the things that allows us to do this in a big way is to reduce our fuel consumption.

That's easier said than done, you might say. It's true. But if you're in the market for a new model, it may be time to put fuel economy at the top of your list of priorities. Yes, SUVs are more practical, but a car can also be very roomy, not to mention save you tens of dollars every week, not to mention often be cheaper to buy.

Take the Volkswagen Jetta, for example. Its generous size, small displacement and attractive price make it a good deal for anyone who wants to balance their budget.

As for consumption, here's what you can expect with this compact-sized model. For the price, you won't find a better SUV, guaranteed.

Turbo 4-cylinder

Since its last redesign, the Jetta is powered by a very small turbocharged 4-cylinder engine. It was 1.4 liters until recently, but for 2022, it's going to 1.5 liters. This new engine is more powerful (158 horsepower instead of 147), but also more efficient in terms of fuel consumption.

On the highway, for example, you'll get 5.5 and 5.7 L/100 km, depending on whether you choose the six-speed manual or eight-speed automatic transmission.

In the city, it's 8.1 and 7.6, respectively. Combined, it's 6.9 and 6.7 L/100 km, again in the same order.

And of course, these numbers are conservative, because by taking it easy on the throttle, you can always do better, as is always the case with turbocharged engines.

Do the math and think of all the fuel savings that await you if you go with such a fuel-efficient vehicle. And the amazing thing is that even if gas prices go back to "normal", you'll still be saving money because the Jetta will still get better gas mileage.
